GSIFF U15 – 2nd in Slovakia

U15 Season ended the same day as men´s, last Sunday. The third year of our project in association with GoodSports, Fighting Flies Bratislava, and International Slovensko, brought the biggest success: 2^ndplace in the U15 Slovak league.

Today, we have for you a summary of all these three years from the point of view of the U15 head coach Tomáš Kečo Sedláček. The article is a draft full of emotions as it was written shortly after the final loss as published on facebook:

I don´t like second places, I would rather finish third, but this medal is an exception.

Second place: three years of hard work. The team, which played the final game today with 10 players, was formed three years ago and underwent  around 25 changes (10 of them this season.) Since the first quarter of this season our final roster of 10 players led us to the finals.

I can recall the great feeling when we played Trnava Angels (one with two extra innings) and yesterday’s very important semi-final victory.

Vs. Apollo Bratislava – all games were tight, even though we won only once. Yesterday´s game, which we lost 3:5, was one of the best games I have coached in this team.

But today (Sunday 08.10) we saw our offensive power undermined by Apollo, who won 8:4 after a very good performance.

Our last season was the best in past three years. Kids made not only a big progress individually but also as a team. Some of them made it to the National team this season. Thanks to the big support from GoodSports, International Slovensko, and Fighting Flies Bratislava, I was able to have great conditions for training: winter practices at ZŠ Pavla Horova, material (bats, gloves, etc…), individual pitchers practices with Fighting Flies and pre-season camp in Čremošné.

Also, a big thank you to Roman Mózsi for crossfit training during winter practices, Andy Keller for individual practices with 1st basemen and umpiring, Matt, Tyler and Toku for their help during spring practices, Paťo Beňa for umpiring most of the games, as well as Pizza Grande for their pizza donations.

Special thanks to parents for their support at the games (play-off mostly) and for their help during the whole season.

I also thank myself for being patient enough to make it… 🙂
Now is time for me to take a rest from coaching.

Next Season I plan to play for the Fighting Flies and I would like to see some players as my teammates. For anyone else, there is a chance to play in the U15 GoodSports league.

Note: we would like to thank all players, their parents, assistants, and mainly Kečo for his sacrifice all these years which ended with a well deserved successful season. We wish him good luck…
